Industry Connections & Partnerships

Led by a national Labor-Management Committee, the UBC’s millwright program actively seeks out industry partnerships, with the goal of providing to customers exactly what is needed on the job site. These partnerships include Siemens Generation Service (SGS), General Electric (APM), Exelon, FlowServe, and others, all of which assist in our training efforts by providing equipment, expert consultation, guest instructors, and more.

We build partnerships based on respect and trust. We provide skilled, responsible millwrights to meet the challenges of any project. Because we are committed to getting each job done right, we include a clause in your contract that eliminates work slowdowns and jurisdictional disputes, because we believe that, as professionals, we can discuss and solve any problems while keeping your project on target.

Training Standards & Qualifications

United States

To meet the requirements of the NMAP/Millwright Qualification Program in the United States, a member must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Complete a millwright apprenticeship program recognized by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
  2. Document 10,000 hours of millwright work experience prior to January 1, 1996. Any upgrade training classes approved by the local Joint Apprenticeship Committee and successfully completed by the journeyperson may be included in the 10,000-hour requirement.
  3. Complete written and manipulative equivalency testing with a score of 80 percent or higher in the five categories: mathematics; print reading; machinery installation; systems components and repair; general knowledge and tools; alignment.
  4. If a person holding a Qualified Millwright card is released from three jobs because of skill deficiencies, that member is required to retake all NMAP/Millwright Qualification tests. After the testing is complete, the member will receive the necessary retraining.

Canada

The Interprovincial Standards Red Seal program is designed to test and recognize properly trained and skilled workers in Canada. Apprentices who have completed training, and journeymen, can earn the Red Seal endorsement on their Certificates of Qualification and Apprenticeship by passing the Interprovincial Standards test. The holder of a Red Seal millwright certificate is able to practice his or her trade in any Canadian province or territory that recognizes the Red Seal as proof of possessing standardized skills. Visit the Red Seal Program’s website for more information.
